The Government of Bangladesh (GOB) has obtained a Credit from IDA and a Grant from Pilot Program for Climate Resilience (PPCR). The overall project development objective is to increase the resilience of coastal population to natural disasters and climate change. More specifically, the project aims at:

  1. Reducing the loss of assets, crops and livestock during natural disasters;
  2. Reducing the time of recovery after natural disaster such as cyclone;
  3. Improving agricultural production by reducing saline water intrusion which is expected to worsen due climate change;
  4. Improving the Government of Bangladesh’s capacity to respond promptly and effectively to an eligible crisis or emergency. This objective will be achieved by rehabilitating and improving the polder system in the contagious six coastal districts comprising Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Barguna and Patuakhali Districts.

CDR provided services to the CEIP-1 main consultant Royal HaskoningDHV in connection to project management. CDR’s major tasks included but not limited to the following:

  • Formulate strategy for stabilizing coastal polder systems;
  • Prepare project work plans and maintain liaison with BWDB and other related agencies;
  • Contract management and supervision of implementation of embankments, sluices, river bank protection works and dredging works;
  • Comparison of the alternative plans and find out the suitable solutions;
  • Formulation of implementation schedule;
  • Preparation of different reports as required for the services;
  • Preparation of reports as needed under the contract.
