The CDR team visited Bhutan to kick-off a new phase for the Gelephu Flood Protection Project. During the mission, we had several meetings with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MoIT) of Bhutan and the Gelephu Thromde, the local authority, to discuss the project structure and strategy and visited the sites for the proposed interventions.
Together with our partners from IHE Delft Institute for Water Education and Druk Consult International, CDR will:
- Update the detailed designs and ESIA for the flood and bank protections to the current situation
- Provide capacity building and support for supervision during the implementation
- Develop a sediment management plan and provide capacity building for the operations and maintenance phase
During the implementation of the project we will support the Ministry of Infrastructure & Transport, Royal Government of Bhutan and especially the Infrastructure Planning and Flood Adaptation Division and the Gelephu Thromde to create self-sustaining capacity for future flood protection projects.
CDR and partners would like to thank Invest International of the Netherlands and the Royal Government of Bhutan to give us the opportunity to remain involved towards and during the implementation of the project.
