Van Oord Dredging and Marine Contractors (Van Oord) was tendering for the Dredging, Reclamation and Marine Limited Facilities for the King Salman International Complex for Maritime Industries and Services project and was investigating the possibilities to provide an alternative bid. CDR International has performed a value engineering assignment focussing on optimization of (1) Breakwater Layout design (2) Breakwater cross-section design (3) Design wave conditions (4) Scour protection. CDR International has submitted separate reports for the 4 assignments. The results were recommendations for viable and significant optimizations that are used to propose an alternative bid. Activities that were performed during the assignment included among others: wave climate assessment, extreme wave analysis, SWAN modelling, PHAROS modelling, detailed downtime assessment, armour stability calculations, layout design.
