Overseas AST Company LLC (AST) has been awarded the Design and Construct contract for a Temporary Harbour at Arzanah Island in the Arabian Gulf. The purpose of the consultancy services was to provide the Client with a detailed design. The goal of the project was to protect the adjacent pontoons from wave impacts by means of a vertical wave barrier whereby an opening between the bottom of the wave screen and the sea bed is left in place. Key component thereby was finding the balance between the maximum allowable wave penetration in the harbour and economic design of the wave barrier.
After the site visit, CDR carried out and reported on:
A. Numerical hydraulic modelling studies;
B. Geotechnical design of pile system;
C. Structural design of wave barrier screen;
D. 2D physical model tests of wave penetration;
E. Preparation of project specification for construction.
