The Colombo Port City Development is a large land reclamation project of more than 200 hectares of land, protected by a low-crested Offshore Breakwater with a length of more than 3 kilometres. CDR International BV is providing design support on the reclamation and marine works for this complex land reclamation design. Alternative and optimised design solutions are being generated for both the layout, marine works and reclamation component of the project. Detailed high-end metocean wave, tidal and flow modelling are part of the services based on which accurate design conditions and alternative design options have been proposed. Special attention is paid to a straightforward and fast construction method as the available construction time is limited, construction is complex and takes place in relative deep waters (over 20m depth). The goal of the Value Engineering Study is to save significant costs (both in material and construction costs) while the stability and reliability of the designs remains equal or improves. Also the stability of the main beach and water quality inside and near the development are within the scope of the study, where final recommendations are provided to optimize the Development as a whole.
