The Ministry of Mines and Energy through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) obtained funding from the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) to support the Coastal Add-On Project for Liberia. The project will support the Government of Liberia to Enhancing Resilience of Liberia Montserrado County Vulnerable Coastal Areas to Climate Change Risks. Currently the coast of New Kru Town (and the rest of Monrovia) is suffering from structural erosion, which is predicted to worsen due to the effects of climate change. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in collaboration with UNDP intent to provide technical assistance and conduct capacity building at the ongoing Coastal Defence project New Kru Town Revetment.

CDR has provided on-site training and supervision during the final construction phase of the New Kru Town Revetment. An improved design was made and implemented to enhance the lifetime of this coastal protection structure. Site engineers and operators were instructed about how to improve the quality of the construction works and optimize the production.Moreover, a comprehensive report was written about the technical conditions of the current revetment and how to improve the structure even further towards a sustainable structure that meets the international standards.
