To gain entry to the Yangon River Port of Myanmar, most of the foreign ships are hindered by a shoal around the estuary. Only at high tide the water depth is sufficient for these ships to be piloted into Yangon port. For a long time, a vessel has been used as stationary pilot station. Due to high operational costs, the Myanmar Port Authority is planning to construct an Offshore Fixed Pilot Station at the vessels anchorage area. China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) has recently been awarded the construction of the Yangon Offshore Fixed Pilot Station (YOFPS). CHEC has requested CDR International for design support and Value Engineering for this YOFPS. The scope of CDR’s services is to provide design support on the latest design of the YOFPS whereby there is focused on the MetOcean study in relation to the forces on the structure. In addition, the geotechnical design (pile arrangement, pile spacing, pile depth, pile dimensions) and the structural design (required deck height, beam and girder arrangements) are assessed.
