The customer has requested a study that will be used as part of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the quay facilities Suzannasdaal at the eastern bank of the Surinam river and a conceptual design for the bed protection at the quays. The goal of this study is to investigate the large scale morphological impact of the proposed quayside by assessing the effects on flow velocities and water levels and relating it to expected morphological impact. The second objective is to design a conceptual bed protection based on the river currents and the propeller wash of vessels.
CDR has anticipated on Svasek’s documented results. A FINEL hydrodynamic model has been used to assess the impact of the quayside development at Suzannasdaal on the local flow velocities, and a preliminary design of the seabed protection to prevent potential scour as a result of river flow and propeller loading for the Port Facilities Suzannasdaal on the right bank of the Suriname River at Commewijne. Moreover, input is provided for the morphological assessment of the EISA.
